Cereal sorting and counting

Today, my two year old and I practiced sorting and counting with his favorite cereal. We used a cereal that is multi colored for this purpose. We had a cereal with five different colors. I let him pick which color he was going to do first. He picked the color, and then counted that amount. We talked about how many he had of that color before he was allowed to eat them. It was snack time anyway so after we sorted he was allowed to eat the colors. He had a great time, and he was able to have a snack during that time.

Jumping into letters

Today my two year old and I had some fun jumping with the letters. He doesn't know all of his letters at this point, but he knows about 14 or more of them. So we practiced jumping on the ones we already knew and a few new ones as well. The ones he didn't know I had him jump on those extra times to reinforce the new letters. Here is the lesson I created for it.

  Jump into letters

Once your child starts learning a few letters, place a few letters on the floor. Call out a letter and have your child jump on the letter they hear you call out. This is a great activity that uses large motor skills (jumping) with basic skills of learning the letters. The kids have a great time jumping and they do not even realize they are learning along the way.
